Can I play chess without reading stuff?

Chess seems fun, but I don't like reading stuff. Do I have to read books to play chess?

Of course not.  Lots of folks go their whole chess lives without ever reading a chess book or doing any studying whatsoever.  They're called casual players and sometimes I think they have more fun than the rest of us.

Or you could become a tactics master; practice doing hundreds of tactics a day until your board vision is as sharp as a tack.  You'll beat a lot of folks.

Or you could play dozens of blitz games a day.  Thoroughly analyze your games, with and without the computer, and you could get very good at fast games.

Or you could just play correspondence games and take hours on each move.  You could watch dozens of master level games to help you figure out typical plans and then try to apply them.

Lots of approaches to chess.  Keep it fun and it's all good...
