Can someone explain why my solution to tactic trainer #63379 is wrong?

https://www.chess.com/tactics/63379

My solution was as follows:

1. Bf1 Rg8+ 2. Bg2 Ne2+ 3. Kh1 Bxg2#

It is a solution that definitely solves for mate in the smallest amount of moves, so why do I completely lose all points for this tactic for not doing it that way? If there is more than one route to a guaranteed checkmate, why do we not get credit for finding an alternative to the one it expects? The actual solution suboptimal and allows white more moves to respond.  My solution doesn't even allow white to respond and is an instant mate.  The puzzle expected the following:

1. Bf1 Rg8+  2. Bg2 Bxg2

If I do that, white can respond with Re1 after black does Ne2, which causes mate to be avoided by white.  Is this an error, or am I missing something?

Part of the learning process is being destroyed by stronger players.  Then, you can analyze your mistakes. Or ask your opponent to give you advice.  I would happily give you advice if we played.

Cheers, and I hope you improve super rapidly happy.png

If white goes Re1, black can still checkmate with the knight on h3.

The problem with your solution is that white can play 3. Kf1.

Thanks!  I'll play a game with you when I get some free time to dedicate to sitting through a game, maybe later this week.  I've pretty much been doing TT puzzles on my phone at work during breaks, so haven't really taken time to play through a live game on here yet.

Ah, I missed that. Thanks!
