As with the strong center, something isn't weak by its own virtue. It's weak when the opponent can bring more attackers than you have defenders for example.

That said, certain types of pawns are often weak. For example backward, isolated, doubled, the base of a pawn chain. You can google or wiki these terms.

They can only move forward.

Can only capture on two squares.

Only two squares maximum! Those dumb rook pawns only have 1!

They only ever think about promotion

They can't bench press their own weight.

Loyalty to the king is a well-known pawn weakness. Especially when the king isn't enlightened...

Yeah but, white wins that position :p

They''re always humming ' hi ho hi ho'. It's enough to drive me insane.

I think not...either side to move its a draw.  White's king has to keep a check on the a pawn and black's king eats all the pawns.

They have to spend money on wigs.

Oops, I only considered 1...a5. You're right of course, 1...a6 and the king is 1 square further up the board.

Yeah, I also didn't specify whether it was white or black to move, not that it makes a difference but you're right if black has the move he needs to find ...a6.  I wasn't really trying to make a serious point though lol.

Well yeah, but if you didn't specify then I always had the out that "hey, you didn't specify!" Tongue Out

I feel a bit silly because this is probably a well known example or something. If you came up with it on the spot, that's pretty good haha :)
