I can't do anything about the computer here, but you could download Lucas Chess. It has a wide variety of engines at all strength levels. I'm sure you could find some much weaker engines in that program.

You can try doing the lessons which introduce you to the game
Once you get through a few of them, the lessons start to give you tactics
I am just as much of an idiot who blunders every other move, but it is beatable (is harder than lv2 though). Start with 2 if 1 is too hard for ya.

I totally get that I'm a beginner and that I'm really bad at chess, but the Lv 1 computer is just impossible to beat for extremely low, entry level players. Don't [removed -- VP] tell me to turn on Coach mode because that doesn't help.
