duh
can you do this?

I wouldn't think so. Although technically there is no rule saying that, it would be unsportsmanlike and unfair to those who play with the computer only. I strongly recommend not to have a chess board. I guess if it's puzzles, it's ok though.

in live chess, is it ok to have a chessboard in front of you to analyze the position and make moves?
no, that would be like moving the pieces otb to analyze in an otb tournament

Just setting up a board is ok, but moving the pieces to analysis positions is not allowed. Live chess is trying to mimic OTB, and having an analysis board is not allowed.
If you play longer time controls, though, like 1 day+, then chess.com provides you a board to do that kind of analysis. That is because 1 day+ is trying to mimic correspondence chess, and that is allowed in correspondence chess.

everyone does it
I don't. It's not really live chess anymore and I wouldn't feel good about winning that way.

i guess the question is how to interpret this line:
- In Live Chess, no outside assistance OF ANY KIND is permitted.

I don't know what chess.com rules have to say, but if you play in any online tournaments organized by other organizers they explicitly disallow analyzing moves on a board. Sometimes they allow you to use a real board to play along, but if you ever try to set up a different position from the position in the game you are subject to forfeiture of the game and even disqualification from the tournament.

They can catch you because many tournaments require camera surveillance.
