If Carlsen is a beast, he's probably an elephant.

We are definitely in the last era of chess when memory is the most important faculty a chess player must have. We all know that Carlsen and Amand prepared themselves with their team and worked with computers, memorizing maximum number of variations.

A genius must produce new ideas (of his own) and be ahead of his time, which is not the case here. I have more respect for champions of the past, when creativity was more important. I beleive Fischer is the last true chess genius. After him, Karpov and Kasparov dominated with preparation and memorisation, they were both strongly influenced by Botvinnik, who was interested in computers as early as 1950's!
