Carlsen – Nepomniachtchi

And Botvinnik. The main reason why he was the world champion for so long is that the rules were heavily rigged in his favor. He had both draw odds and right to a rematch.

Which, by the way, is why I enjoyed Carlsen - Caruana... people whine about draws, but it was #1 vs #2. That's the way it should be happy.png

Unlike the ridiculous Anand - Gelfand match (Gelfand was something like #15 in the world) and the Carlsen - Karjakin match (Karjakin was something like #10 all year).

Nepo is certainly better than those two I mentioned above but... also I can't help but notice he's never been rated over 2800. Carlsen has been rated over 2800 every day since he was 18 years old.

So Nepo at his peak will be about as good at Carlsen was 13 years ago... how can Nepo possibly hope to win? Only if Carlsen can't find the motivation to retain his title.

A tournament can be bad because of the possibility of colluding.

I like the idea of a different time control settling a tie break, but I think you need more games than 12 or 14. 12 draws in a row is not that uncommon. Maybe a 24 game match is better.

In true form, one will claim their clock was running faster than the other’s and that they got disconnected just as they were about to checkmate. Then they will start a thread about the whole affair. wink.png

Magnus, hands down.

I asked a FM what he thought the match would result in, he said laughs. My opinion is pretty much the same although I respect Nepo as a player, I just honestly think he has no chance unless something extraordinary happens

Ok, the results have been predicted right in the most cases (though it's 4 games to go) but the match itself turned out to be totally unpredictable. The conclusion is none of these current giants can beat Magnus, we need a hungry young wolf to counter him. (whisper: like Alireza)

Nepo could have won game 2 and that would have changed the course of the match.

My oponion... Magnis played the game number 6 so strongly that he proved that nobody can beat him nowdays.

But new game will be today... and I think that Nepo has chances in it though...

Because Magnus motivation will not be very much.

Game 6 was a table base draw.

Magnus just needs 2 draws. He will stay focussed.

Maybe but first of all it means that Ian blundered.

You can only win a game of chess if your opponent makes a mistake.
In game 6 Ian was tired and short on time and he made a mistake in a table base drawn position.

That's exactly what I said.
