Carlsen's Disaster in Norway

I remember Bobby Fischer had a bad tournament in the 60s which was in Argentina (I think 1966-67). Later it was revealed that after the games he was hanging out with local women.
I think you're remembering Curacao 1962, when Fischer finished 4th of 8.

I believe Carlsen's recent bad result in Norway is the worst by any reigning WC in history , am I wrong ? He didnt even have 50% ! I know its his worst result since becoming a GM .
Do you think it was due to one of his competitors hiring witches to sabotage him with a curse? Or do you think he had low potassium levels that compromised his performance? There are factors outside of chess that can effect our performance such as diet.

Maybe he's dating Elin Nordegren.
If so, then from Carlsen's perspective, this was probably the best tournament ever!
Sex would reduce his potassium levels.

26....Ba2 was an absolute howler....something only someone like me could make ! But, it was kinda fitting when I saw it 'live'. Kinda wrapped-up his tournament....in two wayz.
He better pull it 2gether or ppl are gonna start wondering about his emotional state....like right now.
Oh !....maybe he fell in love. You know, that warm & glowy tingling feeling you get ? (....you know, that feeling when common sense is leaving your body ?)

I can ask around....

And from what I read, he had the shameless audacity to ask for $2500 to just show up to the 1963 Piatigorsky Cup. But, after that sad performance in Curacao, they told they didn't need him.
He did show up to the 1966 Piatigorsky Cup in 1966 - under their terms & conditions - and we all know how Miguel Najdorf embarrassed him there.

They would deny it. Who at that tournament has a grudge against Magnus? Whoever it is they're the best candidates for hiring witches. If not witches then maybe fallen angels? Maybe Carlsen lapsed enough in his faith to be affected?
"With side effects like that, it's a wonder anyone has sex at all."
Semen contains potassium (known since the 19th century at least), so logically it leaving the body causes lower potassium.
Other candidates for Carlsen's poor performance is higher than usual sugar consumption. I know that a doughnut or Coke greatly reduce performance from personal experience (but if I lose I'll never blame the doughnut to anyone at the club's face, I ate it so a loss would still be due to my actions)
So Carlsen doesn't just need a coach but a spiritual leader to help him ward off curses via prayer and a nutritionist to optimize his energy and focus while reducing sugar crashes and keeping potassium levels good.
The Fischer tournament in question was Buenos Aires 1960. It was apparently his friend Larry Evans who hired a pro for Bobby during the event, since he lacked "experience."

You people are hysterical! Did you even follow the tournament? He lost his opening game in a winning position due to a timeout and a misunderstanding over the time controls. He had a winning position against that little wussbag Giri and did not see the win. He had to go for a win with the black pieces against Anand due to his poor start and lost, no shame there and that great American import Naka played for a draw from the very beginning by employing the Lasker defence against which Carlsen could find nothing. Against Hammer he played the very dubious 4...f6 and got punished. Thus if one looks one can find reasons for all of his disappointing results which makes way more sense than engaging in tabloid journalism and hysterics.
Look at the insipid Anand Topalov draw - playing for a draw and the money which of course makes for economic sense but produces very tedious chess to watch.

Magnus will be back in crushing form again, but it may be that he will not be the dominating player he was in the last few years. So, Nakamura, Caruana, and other young players may disrupt his consistent string of wins.

A minus score in itself doesn't seem that crazy, although very uncharacteristic of Magnus. Against strong opposition though you would think you would get a -1 or -2 every now and then, you can't dominate everyone every time. In any case Magnus is in general extremely consistent.

This is Magnus we're talking about. Something was up with him other than Topalov and the rest prepared well against him. Topalov has a suspicious looking goatee so I think it was him who hired the witches, set him up with a girl before the tournament, and/or offered him a Pepsi and due to the rudeness of refusing Magnus felt obligated to chug it.
Just kidding, I can't see Topalov doing such underhanded tactics, even if he is slightly but noticeably outclassed by Magnus.
