After all the topics in this forum bashing Carlsen I feel like this is an appropriate video

That was a bad interview performance for Ashley. He insulted Magnus to his face. 

I would really appreciate it if Carlsen would resign the title to Fabiano Caruana and start playing checkers.

Thats what I want from Carlsen.

But he's higher rated now, and probably has been for the past... probably 20+ years

Holy shit, I've never seen anything like this from Carlsen before - I'm not sure I've ever seen any professional so triggered ever in an interview lol. 

I agree with him - if you want to watch something for entertainment then go to the movies. Movies are designed for entertainment. Chess is a serious matter - you have to be professional and it is required by the rules of the game to try your best to win. It's not an exhibition.      

Playing an audacious game rather than the objectively best one  might get a few "oohs" and "aahs" from people who don't know any better, but the purists will often be disappointed at how the standard of play goes down and players aren't playing their best moves. It would also be an insult to Caruana.     

If you want to play exhibition chess then state that in the rules, otherwise people will play their best chess and not gimmicky lines. 

I went back and watched the whole segment. Yeah, it actually does make me like magnus more.

I was late because it took me a few days to get over the draw, it was too traumatic.

Just a few days? I still wonder wtf Magnus thought when he offered that draw in game 12.

To quote Bent Larsen: 'The important thing isn't whether you're winning or not. The important thing is whether you have winning chances.' Carlsen had winning chances, and it wouldn't have hurt him to play on until the time control at move 40 at least - no need to go over board, just prod a bit here, and prod a bit there, utilizing the fact that Caruana was running low on time.

I don't blame Carlsen for taking the draw. I blame the format for putting the temptation in his way. He wouldn't have offered a draw had that been game 2 or 4 or something. Had the tiebreakers been another long play game with drawing of lots, he would also not have offered the draw.

But he was smooth about it, at least at the top.

Caruana has a chance to overtake Carlsen in terms of rating at the London Chess Classic, if he is playing there. That would be ironic.
