Caruana takes shots at Nakamura!

I'm not able to watch the video of the event myself, but according to Peter Doggers' report there was some drama in the last round of Norway Chess between the two Olympiad teammates:

Shortly after the time control the position was resignable, but Nakamura continued playing while being was a rook down, and even spent 16 minutes on one move there.

Both the commentator Nigel Short and Caruana exaggerated when they called it "30 minutes," but nonetheless it was remarkable how long Nakamura spent on his 54th move. "He wasn't thinking about the position at this point, that was clear," said Caruana. "He was thinking about the game and how this has happened."

Caruana went as far as calling it "not very good sportsmanship."

"You either play quickly and resign in a few moves, or you just resign now," he said.

Well, well, well... looks like there have been some

And to continue quoting Doggers,

Nakamura left the playing hall right after the game, but would later tweet:

Now this whole thing is just AWESOME! It's exactly what chess needs - some beefs and trash talking! Who says only athletes and rappers get to talk s$#t about their rivals? The best chess players in the world can do it too!

Now all we need is some heated back and forth between fans of the two players. Is Nakamura an arrogant brat who needs to be taught some manners? Is Caruana a sourpuss and a sissy for talking about Naka behind his back? What are you waiting for, keyboard warriors? Let's get the feud started!

Lol Fabi owned Naka in the Najdorf again and Naka was seriously butthurt about it. Once he was lost, he blitzed out a few moves then just sat there pouting for a good 15-20 minutes. You got owned dude, get over it. I really can't stand that guy.

I see... a decent comeback in my opinion.

Naka fans, the ball is in your court now. How will you respond to such an audacious insult to your hero?

Or, as a colleague player always says when anybody takes a hit from someone he doesn't expect it,

It' just a game, and laughs out loud.

.. I've noticed that almost invaribly ; 'Magnus' Never makes eye-contact, with his opponent ; Whether, it's before or after, a game has been played !?

That 'custom' though Not exclusive to 'Carlson'; I would think, is somewhat off-putting, to at least, a few of his fellow chess players.

.. The following, is the aftermath, of 'Carlson's latest win, over 'Kramnik'.

.. What's the deal here {?} ; And, since when has eye-contact, been considered, as expecting Too much, to engage in !? o:

I've noticed that too. I was actually thinking about it yesterday. He always looks down or away when he shakes hands. I had trouble with that in my teens. Had to force myself to do it. I don't think he's intentionally being rude, but he needs to work on it for sure

The trashtalking is so weak it's pitiful. We need the great legend of chess trashtalking back. Robert James Fischer simply played with the minds of their rivals, without them even noticing.  Crushing their egos effortlessly. Denouncing them as part of a Zionist-Murican-Soviet conspiracy.

Although not at Fischer's level, there have been many other great chess trashtalkers. Karpov, Kasparov (although Garry failed when he tried to trashtalk Deep Blue), Kramnik and his good friend Topalov...However, my favourite one, despite being usually overlooked, has to be Korchnoi.

As I said before, the quality of chess trashtalking in this case is laughable. It is just one more sign of the decadence of trashtalking as a noble art, which started several years ago. Computers have made it trivially easy to insult people you do not know through the internet, and now nobody feels the need to be original, to create beauty while attacking others. Verbal fights are boring, dry and repetitive, and they often end in a draw because none of the participants can find the final, annihilating shot. It is just a shame we cannot go back in time, to an era when the opportunities to trashtalk were highly unusual, and everyone did their best to triumph. However, we must admit the good times will never come back. Computers spoilt the fun.

Flank_Attacks,

Magnus Carlsen is a very very unpleasant person in general, and refusing to make eye contact with people is just another of his controlling, passive-aggressive behaviors.

Sometimes he'll look at his opponent when discussing their game over the board, but, really, the only time you can reliably count on Magnus to make himself likeable is when he's making money, like in the banter blitz he plays on chess24 now.

Sorry if I'm offending anyone.
