Captain Obvious here. If so many of your games turn into a tradefest and then an endgame, maybe studying endgames is your way to move up? Or try a correspondence game with up to 3 days to think about a move. Should be able to figure something out if you can "sleep on it". Or maybe you should just go on a tactics binge so your board vision gets sharper.
One of our forum regulars, who has only recently come back to chess, wrote about being in the sub 1000 basement and his addiction to 5 minute play. That was over a year ago though so the details are gone. I think he just played through it. Not an easy question. Good luck!
Preferably 900-1100 range (my games). It's impossible to move up for me. NOTHING in videos and tutorials help, because NO ONE plays the way videos describe in my sub-1200 games.
I've complained before in another thread about how it's a trading fest at these levels. People see a piece that's single covered and take it immediately. There's NO strategy. Just line your guys up with the opponents and BAM! Make even swaps and the next thing you know we're in an endgame with all the pieces gone. This happens over and over and over and over again in my games.
I don't know if people just lack imagination or what? Maybe they can't formulate a long-term strategy involving all the pieces on board. I don't know. But it's hard to develop ANY kind of strategy in my games. People just take...take, take, take! I'm sick of playing at these levels. People don't play at all like they do in tutorials. So I can't even practice the stuff I see in them.
What to do against piece traders? I know you should try to avoid bad trades (like a good bishop for a bad one, etc.), but sometimes they're just relentless and force trades. They'll take anything and everything that's single/equally covered. I'm starting to greatly dislike this level of games. But, at the same time, I can't beat them. So I need to see how you good players would handle things. Otherwise, I'll be stuck in 900-1000 Blitz for eternity.
