I don't think you can get rid of the "ums and ahs" from the commentators... They do have to react on the spot when a move is made and they have to at least take a moment to think about it in order to make their commentary... "Um" does wonders if you need to fill a gap while you choose your next words.
And of course since it sometimes takes a long time to see a new move they gotta keep coming up with stuff to say, no matter how ridiculous, trivial or completely irrevelant it is:
"Hey Susan, what do you think the competitors had for breakfast this morning? I had eggs. ... 2 eggs... and some toast... and I put a dab of butter on the toast... ... ... The toast was slightly burnt on one side... the other side was barely touched. ... ..... That toaster ruined my toast, Susan... Ruined it... .... It's not the way I like to start my day. I hope that our competitors didn't have ruined toast as well... it can be quite distracting, I tell you, knowing those fops at the hotel can't even provide me with a properly functioning toaster... ..... Ah, and now we have the first move, 1.e4. Interesting Susan, I wonder what his 2nd move will be? ..."
