Some people dont even reply to a simple hello at the beginning of a game (that  annoys me ) . i play online chess to play another human , not a  wit who thinks oooo you cant txt and play chess at the same time . ooo cant listen to music i have to concentrate on this game ...lah lah lah .

I mainly play blitz chess online, but even in this: if someone takes the time to type "hello", I can take the time to at least respond. In daily chess however, chat is a friendly resource that should be taken advantage of more often. You do not need to be a chatterbox if that is not who you are, but at least a friendly " hello" or comment could be said. Personally, a daily game has my attention (chat included); of course do not take it personally if people do not use the chat option. Some players simply play MANY daily games at once, and do not have the second to spare to respond because they have other games to check. Sadly, this loses some humanity to the game - but then again these people are in front of a lifeless computer/phone screen, human interaction is simply not required here. My view is that they are missing out on an element of play (and manners), but it is really only their loss and that is up to them (mind you, this may not bother them).

In a daily game, perhaps even blitz, I'll probably respond to a friendly "hello", but this may just be me happy.png

Based on your rating, please explain how would you know if talking detracts from being able to play chess?

I’m here to play chess - not to chat.

You play with yourself? You do realise most people on here are under 18. Not something they need to know hehehe

Why should/ nt someone chat? It's up to them. I don't like sore losers. Those that think I have to play them again because I won. I don't have to play again. If you were better than me you would have won. Get over it. I don't have to chat or play again, it is up to the individual. Me, I love talking. It puts the other person off. My last draw was because of chatting Hehehehe

When I first started on Chess.com I would chat and I soon discovered there were more rude people than sporting and kind people who enjoyed a simple chat. Say what you like.

If my opponent types “hello” of course I will respond in kind. That is not chatting, it is common courtesy. P.S. if someone does not respond to your chat it could be that they don’t speak the same language as you.

I disabled chat. I've had some chats requests but I ignore them. A few of those requests happened after not accepting draw requests in considerably better positions. Considering how toxic and dramatic the pawn pusher community is, I dont believe they were going to be to congratulate me on my chess skills and on how I outplayed them.
