@BronsteinPawn What is the guarantee?  A full or partial refund if there isn't a specified amount of improvement?  Don't forget the coach should require the student to track their participation and if the student fails to meet their end of the agreement they won't be entitled to that refund.  As this increases risk for the coach they should charge a higher amount for their service.

I have seen courses for certifications offered with a money back guarantee if you fail the exam.  The courses were more expensive and they required the student to put in so many hours of online quizzes and study as well.

It's just up to a coach to experiment with such an approach as it might attract more students.  I think the risk can be managed by the coach.  I don't think this is fraud.

I'll do it for 25 Grand a day - that's a few bucks cheaper than Kaspy. Guaranteed to become a GM - or at least improve your Standard Rating to 1650. If not, I offer an all expenses paid trip to Wembley to see the FA Cup final.

lol

Of course no coach can guarantee improvement.  ANd no coach should either.  It is the responsibility of the learner to practice and to do the necessary work.

Makes sense, but I dont think any chess coach wants to experiment with refunds, they dont get many students anyways happy.png

I see that GM Eric Hansen charges $100/hour for coaching. With all due respect to the awesome talent that he is, do people really shell out that kind of money for chess coaching?

AussieMatey

That sounds reasonable for a GM.

I signed up for an online training program that will cost me ~450$ for a year. I am okay with it because it only costs me around 34$ per month, but something like $100/hour is too much. Coaches should seriously think about cutting down their fees and try to train more students instead of making it their personal get-rich-quick scheme.

BronsteinPawn

That does not sound reasonable at all.

Probably Jeffery Xiong like kids steal their mom's credit card and get some lessons with Hansen.

BronsteinPawn

He does other things for living, he would be starving himself if he only coached.

That is what he thinks an hour with him is worth.

urk
Probably because we discuss chess matters on this forum. Is that ok with you?

and you're telling me this, why?

Because somebody reading this might be interested in receiving coaching to improve and maybe earn FIDE rating someday, but nowhere near your FIDE 2975 so chill!

@VimalKumarK, what sort of support do you get from chessmasterschool (by which I mean support for your chess, not I.T. support). Do you feel they give you individual support or is it more a "one size fits all" approach?

It is a 'one size fits all' kind of product. There is no personal interaction but you can contact via email if any doubt. However, the study material I got so far is excellent, and very well structured. Any 1500+ should have no problem in understanding it.

It is inclined more into changing the current bad habits and move the student to an accurate way of thinking while playing or analysing positions, lot of positional chess (in the coming months), and also chess board visualization training for improving calculation abilities, not to mention analysing a lot of games and positions every month. Anybody who can't put in 8-10 hours per week should not waste money in there. It is more of a positional training program. I still have to improve endgame skills using other books as it is not covered.

IpswichMatt

Thanks for the reply. No end game in there at all?

No comprehensive endgame training as far as I know.

SonOfThunder2

So I guess the question is, can he guarantee improvement, eh?

president_max
