Cheap chess sets
My first chess set, which I still have, was purchased decades ago. It's hand carved, Staunton design, weighted pieces and cost $45.00 IIRC. The colors contrast nicely (rosewood and I think boxwood), something I haven't always found with chess computer pieces.

Vintage staunton sets hold their value really well. Maybe I should just be patient, save up, and get a really nice vintage, pre-loved set and be done with it!
Returning to the game after a few decades rest. I've just revived my old chess computer from leaked vintage batteries and had a few games.
I think I need to grab myself a new board and pieces rather than simply playing on these magnetic and plastic sets. It's nice playing on the app on a monitor but, I also like to play on a real set even if it's against an electronic opponent. It's easy to spend £500 and get a beautiful chess set. However, there are so many cheesy sets at the cheap end it's surprisingly hard to find good ones. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone cared to post any links or pictures of cheaper sets that are available or that you bought/found, and why you like them - whether it's for aesthetics, ease of recognition of piece, the weight, the finish. Opinions and stories all welcomed.
