Depends on what you were doing in London.

If you are a couple moves away from losing then according to chess.com yes it is, and it can result in a warning and/or account closure.

I have to admit that when chess computers first came out I tried a bit of cheating. It's a pretty boring pastime. I think most people would quit doing it after a few games. A few times there I moved the wrong piece when, using the computer, had to either figure out the game for myself or take back moves from my computer in a big panic, usually a losing situation. Trying to figure out a game a computer set up isn't easy. I don't have any computerized devices these days.

That link doesn't say that at all, you are just putting in an extra layer of assumption that someone is on vacation mode because they have a game they are about to lose rather than coincidental to it.  A majority of people just have stuff in their lives more important and really couldn't care less to prolong a single lost online game for 3 months stopping them from being able to play any online chess in that time.

They say and I quote "Chess.com has the right to adjudicate any game in which we feel one of the players is using vacation time to intentionally delay a game when in a lost position. "

If you are 1 move away from losing and use 3 months of vacation time I think they probably will "adjudicate the game"

It's up to them, they are not dumb, they know if you know you are going to lose

That's not cheating. It's not nice and against the site rules but it's not cheating. This thread will get locked if you don't change its name.

(In case you don't, I'm in before the lock)

Just think of it as a rating jump in temporary storage.  I would rather take losses ASAP because my rating will gain more on a win the lower my rating is.  On the other hand, if this prevents your rating from going up, that means you'll gain more on wins if this win stays in limbo a while. Of course, that might all balance out when the vacation game is finally reported.  So I can't imagine why someone would use vacation days if they know they're going to lose.  Nevertheless. it is their right!

You can be as few moves away from losing as you like, but it doesn't change the fact it can still be completely incidental to why someone is on vacation mode, which was the point being made, especially if they have other games going on too.

And if chess.com adjudicate games then there is no reason at all for people whining about vacation abuse in so many threads.

The only question I have is why the hell would you start a bunch of daily games if you know you are going on vacation???....just plain rude...play live chess if you know your vacation is coming up. The only way I could see it is if it was an emergency or illness or something like that.

That is the dumbest post yet...most players have over 40 games going all the time.  They can't help it if they are going to be on vacation and need to pause their games for 5 days.  If you are really that anctios about finishing your games I recommend you start more untill you have about 35.

Isnt the point of vacation to be able to pause games, so you can go on vacation?

Last time I checked, maybe it changed...

yeah, guess I over-reacted a little, getting to be a grumpy old man...better try a little harder to fight it...I took tons of vacations when I was younger too, just didn't play much chess then.

another stupid discussion on chess.com 😂... if someone decides to use the vacation feature, just fkn wait until he/her is back, to win against that person..its their right to use it its annoying when ure 1,2,3moves away from checkmate but deal with it.. mark it as a win for you and go on with new games😊
