Cheaters... or Do I just Suck at Chess?
Overall keep in mind it’s just a board game. There’s zero money in it. There’s no greater social status in it….its a game. Nobody cares…
The perception of cheating levels is orders of magnitude more than the actual amount. The vast majority of games and players are clean.

Cheating has become a real problem in online chess. Because of that, I’ve found myself becoming suspicious of nearly every opponent who plays better than their rating suggests. It’s made my experience with online chess… not so great.
But here’s the honest truth: even though there are cheaters out there—maybe even a lot of them—the real problem might just be that I kind of suck at chess. Lol.
Instead of getting worked up every time I lose—whether the person was cheating or just genuinely better—I’ve realized I need to stop assuming the worst. That kind of mindset is sucking the fun out of the game for me.
Can anyone relate to this? Have you ever gone through a phase where you felt like anyone who beat you had to be cheating? And if so, what helped you move past that?
I’m seriously trying to change how I think, but it’s not easy. Sometimes I wonder if I should just stick to playing bots. At least then, I know it’s not personal. Lol.
