If you join the cheating forum there are a lot of discussions about engine use and how they are dealt with.
Myself, in almost 500 correspondence games on the site I have only thought twice that my opponent may have used an engine. One was banned a few days later.
Most people do think that when it gets to 2600+, a sizeable percentage of the players are engine users. It's proving it using creditable analysis that is the problem. But yeah, join the cheating forum.
First of all I am new here, so hello to everyone. I read a post here that mentioned sore losers. I have a question that made me think of. Have you ever thought that you were playing against a computer? I mean literally. I have played games where my opponent is rated very very high. I am not talking 1900 or 2000, much higher. And I make a move that is very thought out and unorthodox, and involves one or two sacrifices in a very complex position. The opponent would sniff them out and move within 30 to 60 seconds after I move. Then I decided to watch their play. They would have a number of moves pending against very highly rated players in close complicated games, and make all 6 to 12 moves within 2 to 4 minutes. Repeatedly doing this AS SOON as their turn came up. Now I am not a very good player. But when I take the time to move I see a lot of things I otherwise would not see. The reason this even entered my mind is because I found out (he told me so) someone I had played cards against had used computer software to do his thinking for him. This goes hand in hand with the sore loser mentality (and a few other mental issues). Losing doesn't bother me. (got plenty of experience with that), the idea of being cheated is a little different. I lose to the computer often, but at least I know I am playing one. Thanks for any thoughts on this.
