Nice to see ya back! and the answer is NO.
CHEATING POLL
Nope never have never will. Maybe it's the lapsed Catholic in me speaking but cheating is wrong and I can't bring myself to do it. Also aside from Chessmaster I don't own any chess programs. I use it to practice since my wife won't learn to play.
So if I write here "Yes, I cheated" I am classified by Cheater_1 as honest? And when I write "No, I didn't cheat" I am a liar? Very nice discussion...
Cheating doesn't teach you anything! So whats the point of cheating on an online chess site? I know to some people ratings matter, but they're not your ratings if you dont get them. I do use chess programs to help me better learn the game, but my rating is my own.
I wholeheartedly agree. You could cheat, and rack up your on-line raining, which doesn't mean anything. You don't learn anything, and more importantly, it hurts the person your playing against, who wants to learn and get better against other people, not a chess computer.
Never, and never will. The only "cheating" I have knowingly faced here is that in an unrated game I believe that I played a kid's father when I was supposed to be playing the kid. I intentionally made bad moves to give the kid a chance and then realized he was not making any weak moves, let alone dropping pieces right and left like in our Greeter game. There was also no chat when in the Greeter game there was a ton of chat.
a i thoght that cheater_1 was kick off here chess.com so it must be someone else using the name, but yes i have cheated in the past never here on chess.com, it was 4 or 5 years ago on pogo.com i was using chessmaster for ps2 and still lost the game so eighter he was cheating too or he's 2,500+ rated player, i was told that you can use computers when playing "on-line" but u can't 4 "live" i haven't but was told it's ok to use computers for "on-line" games
I’ve been playing CC for 50 years and have too much respect for the game. When I first started server chess it was IECG and didn’t realize they allowed engine use and got trashed +0 –4 =2. After realizing what was going on I entered a couple tournaments there and used an engine. I found it not to be to my liking. First, my engine/computer are not state of the art. Secondly, I’m too impatient to let an engine run more than a few minutes to select a move. Third, I’m not good enough to direct the game into situations where engines don’t play well. Maybe a really strong master who is capable of playing positions where engines aren’t very good may find it challenging to seek out those positions, but I found it boring and couldn’t wait for the tournaments to end.
It seems to me he posted this in the hopes that most everyone would say "no I never cheated!" just so he can say that his statement of "70% of posters will probably lie" was true. You will probably see another post by cheater_1 soon about all the 2 faced liars on chess.com and I'm sure(if he does post something like that) he will mention this poll as some kind of proof. Don't feed into this crap. This is not just some curiousity of his, believe me there is an ulterior motive behind this, and it's probably retarded. He wants you all to play into whatever dumb little game he's got goin on. My advice is don't,but if you think you feel the need to write something(like I did) do what me and several others have done, reply with a statement that does NOT answer the question posed in this insanely ignorant poll. Cheater_1, why don't you play a few games on this site even though you are "retired".(didn't see any games listed on your profile) instead of just using the forums here to run your mouth. Sorry if I sound like a hater, but this is just my opinion.
An emphatic no way. What is the point? I had a pretty lousy long game against a stronger opponent and lost. My rematch against him was a dogfight and I was surprised when he posed that very question to me. Was I using some form of assistance. There is no honor in doing that.
I am in myself a program so i dont need any. Infront of me every program is failed. I am an adventurous player. And i dont want to be somebody because you enjoy the most when you are nobody. I play chess just to give me pleasure only.
So i say NO
If looking at the opening explorer counts as cheating I've done that a few times with unrated welcoming games, and in vote chess. I don't really see the point in cheating at a game like chess.
I'm quite sickened by this. Why do so many of you want to to win so desperately you use a computer to do it? If you're that frightened of losing a game of chess perhaps its not the game for you. If we all did this it would be contest of who had the best computer program. Now if I lose I won't know whether to congratulate my opponent or think I've just lost to a computer.

What a nonsensical post! Everyone is saying they never cheated! What's the point of asking them, anyway?
