You use the phrase "chess program" as opposed to "chess engine" and you fail to fail to define what exactly a "chess program" is. Since the word program could have several meanings (i.e. the act of writing an application for a computer, a guide detailing the cast and acts of an exhibition, an application which has been written and compiled into binary instructions, a television or radio broadcast, etc.) , this could mean that you've asked a cast member of a production of Alice in Wonderland what advice they have for you. Given that chess.com is on the computer and that there is programming involved it could be argued that the analysis board is a chess program. With that argument then YES I have cheated and YES I have cheated every day since becoming a member of chess.com and YES I will continue to do so as this does not violate the TOS of chess.com.
CHEATING POLL
I have never used any computer program to help me decide on my next moves. I have, however, consulted opening libraries.
I dont even have a chess computer. Are you just doing this so you can feel better about yourself, just trying to make it right? Shouldnt you be removed from the site for cheating?
Now dont go into a rant I am just giving you the obvious poke.....
I joined because i wanted to get better and be able to improve my gameplay for the state scholastic tournement cant cheat there so y cheat here
Never cheated and never will. It gives me nothing to know that I own a chessprogram that is better than my opponent. I play chess for fun not for my chess accout to gain victorys.
Hey cheater_1...why do the people who don't respond worry you? You are a "cheater," so why would you care? I'm guessing that comment was just your attempt to provoke a response by anyone who actually read to the bottom of your message. I guess I fell into that group of losers.
My answer is yes. Years ago I was playing Yahoo chess quite often, because I didn't really know of any other sites. There was some advertisement one day that I clicked on. It was a program that built right into Yahoo and ran your game through an engine. It would pop up a little chess board for you right next to the actual game. You could even set the options so that it made your moves for you(which was ridiculous, because it was constantly your opponents turn since the moves took less than a second). It was only a 5-day trial or so, so for a week I kicked everyone's butt that was willing to play me. After it was over, it wanted you to buy it for like $30 or so. I had enough fun, so I declined. And, making the moves that the program suggested made me realize just how horrible I was at chess. I couldn't even understand why it wanted me to move some places until I checkmated the other person a few moves later. I still watch GM games and wonder what the heck they are doing.
If you're going to use a chess program- what's the point of playing - it's not you that's deciding the moves so you can't take any credit.
There's something psychologically wrong with people who use computers. Databases are ok because they only show you the popular lines - and sooner or later they run out of options for you
I can honestly say I never cheated. Although, I would really like to download a program that allows one to cheat. It not that I want to cheat but I think such a program could be useful in analyzing games after the fact. Does any one have any suggestion on where I can find such a program?
I think I may have cheated before. Once in postal chess and once OTB.
My opponent could not keep track of the position and kept sending impossible moves. After straightening him out several times I got tired of it and sent him an incorrect diagram where he was facing mate. He never realized it and got mated in a couple moves. That was cheating, I guess.
What about the time OTB in a tournament when my opponent mated me but didn’t realize it? I played on and he ended up losing. Was that cheating?
no, i have never cheated. heck, i wish i had a chess program i could run after my games. someday, when i save the money.
Yes. Even though that is a subversive question, I will give it an honest answer. I consulted Fritz about four times in my chess.com carreer, always in a losing cause and never more than one move in one game . I managed one draw against a much lower rated opponent and three defeats.
And yes, I feel like total crap about that draw.
I was once in a similar position as a tactics trainer that i remembered and i used that but that's it
