Instead of thinking up your own moves, you could ask a computer program (so called chess engine) to figure out the best move to play. This is of course cheating, because it's not you, but the computer playing.
cheating

I am a qualified national TD here in SA and when one plays in an OTB chess tournament the rules of that tournament are clearly laid out and access to ANY external help is TOTALLY forbidden. However, being a newie on this site, I haven't found any rules under which one takes part (maybe there are some somewhere stated on the site?). Obviously one has access to the analysis board and, depending on the class on membership, access to various openings and all sorts of other aids on this site (all strictly forbidden in an OTB game).
I understand and am in total agreement that chess engines should not be used in any situation. But, like the opening post, I am unsure of what 'help' one can call on. For example, if a strange opening is employed by your opponent, is one able to consult one of the many publications on openings, such as BCO, without it being termed 'cheating'?
May I suggest that the administrators of this excellent site clearly set out rules under which one can safely play. Anything outside of these rules would be cheating, and playing there would be termed cheating, and it would be on one's own conscience. Like many of the other posts on this forum, what self-satisfaction can one get by winning by cheating?
There are some site rules available on:

I see that the site says that you can be "banned for Cheating"
But how is cheating done at this site?
