Is it possible to get out of check by checkmating your opponent? Or do you have to get out of check first? Thanks in advance. Laughing

You have to get out of check first, because theoreticaly, you win when it becomes inevitable for his king to be captured. Doing this would allow him to capture it, winning the game. EDT: forgot about that

Yes, but only if the checkmate move stops the check, like in this position:
