Checkers before Chess for Kids

I learned to play checkers before chess as a kid. I played both strongly. I believe checkers should be taught before chess so kids can learn chess better. Thoughts?

Both games are challenging and have masters, but are so different I can't see the commonality in them.

It's best for kids to learn by progressive games. Before checkers, I would teach Othello.

I play checkers (dama) too.

The problem with Checkers is it has to many styles.

- Some Checkers have flying Kings which move like Bishops.

- Some Checkers have pieces which can capture backwards.

- Some Checkers have pieces which don’t have to capture at all.

I like playing American Checkers.

- Force Jump

- Kings move only 1 square

- Kings only 1 who can capture backwards.
