Checkmate-Classifications

Hello there happy.png

Short question: within the first 2-5 Moves in any game, in the Moves-Frame, it shows the name of the opening dynamically (e.g. Scotch game, Philidor's Defense, Sicilian etc.)

I find that really cool and I learned a lot of names and defenses this way, as it comes as a natural byproduct of the opening.

I would like to have the same for checkmates. So that it spits out the name of the mate (eg Boden's Mate, Morphy's Mate etc.)

Shouldn't bee to hard, as you only need to know the involved pieces, and match their relative positions to a table of mates, right?

Is there an easy way to look this up somehow?

#####Background####

First I want to learn the names of the Checkmates, obviously. But like the opening, I want to be able to defend.

When I got wrecked by the scotch game twice ( and it spit out the name of the opening while it happened) it was really a thing of going to Youtube and entering 'Defend against Scotch Game' and I went from loosing to winning the next times.

Really boosted my skill doing this I'd like to have the same for mates.

Is there an easy way to achieve this somehow? Do I need an engine or something? Manually looking it up isn't efficient.

Nobody?

Just go into Wikipedia and look for types of checkmates. A bit of leg work goes a long way

Thank you Gruber for pointing that out. Let me quote myself:

Still, welcome to the digital age.
