I think the news reported some 1100 people were hurt. The only other such incident I've heard of is Tunguska. Just think if the meteor had been large enough to hit Earth. It would have been a whole different story. (In fact, the news reported a much larger rock passing nearby in the same time frame.)

I remember that GM Sveshnikov, who wrote some really good opening books on the French and Sicilian, is from Chelyabinsk, a city in the Urals. I hope that him, his family, and friends are well, because I hear from the news that a meteorite shower hurt hundreds of people there.
