@michaelmelton, was what I said helpful or was it gobbledegook ? I'm on line right now if you need any clarification.

Are you sure this is legal ?

It's only illegal in most countries that have laws. Plus it's probably infected with malware, probably installing a nice root kit so criminals can steal your identity and hijack your computer for all kinds of illegal activity. If you can't afford ChessBase, you probably can't afford to have your identity stolen or the FBI knock on your door.

Thought so, rtr1129!

However, you can buy Fritz 11,12 or 13 fairly cheaply on amazon, if you opt for the non-chessbase version. I believe the only difference is you don't get any playchess server subs included, which you do with the chessbase version

How do use the analysis and read it properly in Arena?

I'm not sure, have not used Arena in a long time. There are other GUIs you can try, like "SCID vs PC". You would probably get the best answers at talkchess.com where all of the chess programmers hang out.

Comment #7 by tybrown366 on your other thread is exactly right. Don't worry so much about the small positional niceties of the game at this stage, you need to stop hanging pieces. Also, play slower than 15|10. Maybe online games, or join the Dan Heisman slow chess group.

As far as openings go, the Ruy Lopez occurs after 1 e4 e5 2 Nf3 Nf6 3 Bb5 - if the game starts 1d4, it's not going to be a Ruy.

But this really doesn't matter - all the opening theory you need right now is "Get your fu*king pieces out, get castled, get your rooks connected"

Your main focus should be on tactics. Ideally get a good but fairly simple book on tactics - google Dan Hesiman's recommendations.

Going back to your game posted above, I said that 10 Na4 loses a piece in 2 different ways - these are (i) 10 ... Qh4+ followed by ... Qxa4, and (ii) 10 ... Qxd3, since 11 cxd3 is met by ... Nxd3 mate.

With a bit of tactical training, moves like these will be come to you easily.
