I need to listen to something 'spacey' - like new age - Pink Floyd - classical...that kind of thing.
I can't listen to something that demands my attention too much, or else I lose concentration.

Odd times I might listen to Music when playing chess, but if I am in a serious game I never do !
Me too!
Sometimes though, I'll have a song playing in my head that distracts me... any advice on that? (except meditation... I'm already into that, and it's not working out too well... I always fall asleep )
My mind jumps from thought to thought (random, yet connected thoughts), and I do find it very hard to focus on any one thing. My teacher taught me this trick, that I should focus on the very base of a candle flame, and it works really well, but I don't want to have a lighter or candle in front of me every time I need to clear my mind!
By the way, who was your mentor? Just wondering, though I probably would've never heard of him
So I know music can affect moods and thought patterns, and I was wondering if music makes a difference in chess for anyone, as in: does it affect the level of your playing, the kind of moves you make, whether you become more daring or more relaxed, that kind of stuff. Any links or research would be great too.
Personally I like to listen to a little Fatboy Slim when I play, but usually it's just silence, because iTunes slows down Live Chess
