I like listening to classical or jazz when I play.

Techno Minimal?

He means Minimal Techno.  Hope that clears things up.

Oh, okay. Same thing, really. Wink

But that only means, I'm not the first one who did this mistake, the name is from this streaming site (idk whether its okay to post outside links, so I won't).

I was being facetious; though back in '05 when the label hit it big (think Audion and Isolee's Wearemonster) it was certainly designated as Minimal Techno.  But changing the word order alters precisely nothing.

TheBigDecline

Alright, gotcha.

Besides, Radiohead is actually pretty darn sweet, I'm listening to this for the 1st time in a long while again:

It's their complete album Kid A. Really, I have no idea what's there to dislike about it, but discussing about the inherent 'value' of each individual music taste had always been dumb, so to each one his own.

What do you listen to (genre, artist), if anything, when you are playing? Does the right music improve your game?

I love the soundtrack from the 1961 movie the hustler when solving tactics and working on chess:

I also love Eddie's confidence when he's playing it's inspiring.

Radiohead were pretty good (I don't know the most recent stuff).  Kid A was half-wonderful half-crappy, OK Computer is probably top five of the 90s.  But just the idea of a kid doing nothing but listen to radiohead and play chess is funny to me Tongue Out

(btw someone who knows trends in electronic music ought to recognise that Radiohead had a tendency to recycle daring musical efforts into more accessible forms - it's not a slight against what they did, but it is true enough)

(oh, and one can very easily argue legitimacy of taste, within broad paramaters at least.  Yes, someone who loves Can likes better music than someone who loves Bieber)

Watch out then for my new TV show! Laughing

And, only listening to one exclusice band would get pretty dull after a short while ...

I love that Dvorak guy too!!!!

TheBigDecline

How do you get 'kid' out of that? I can be returning to college after working for a few decades.

theoreticalboy

1995.  You're a kid, kid (and enjoy it while you can).

What do the hipsters listen to, TB?Laughing

theoreticalboy

I dunno, I'm out of the loop these days.  I hear a lot about Dirty Projectors and Vampire Weekend, but I think they're just straight indie maybe?  I'm listening to The Tammy's right now, because I'm an awesome hipster snob douchebag, of course.

Drakodan

I don't. Its too much of a distraction, because I'm massively into the music I love, so I primarily pay attention to the music if I'm listening instead of whatever else I'm doing. Naturally, this is not conducive to good calculation and evaluation.

netzach

Las Vegas techno okay for gambiteers.

Once you're out of the loop are you still considered a hipster? Being a hipster takes dedication.

No, see, it's okay, because even though I'm out of the current U.S. loop, I still can argue Times New Viking were better when they were noisy, point out I have a set of four tickets for the next Deerhoof show, enjoy Juusho Futei Mushoko as they are and claim "lack of irony is the new irony," and also state unambiguously Shonen Knife covering My Bloody Valentine is better than all original My Bloody Valentine, so I can keep the hipster aura that way.

Hilarious!Laughing

And that's really the true mark of a hipster, using band names as words so that no one can understand youLaughing

This is all music, right?

(I was never a hipster, so I don't worry about being exposed as a normie)
