I'm having the same problem. I think it has something to do with the ads. It works until the advertisement starts loading I think...

Running latest version of iOS on an iPhone 6+
The app freezes about 3-5 seconds after opening the app. It seems to freeze when the advertisement fails to load or so. About 1% of the time when the advertisement does load, the app works fine for that session
Latest version of iOS on an iPhone 4S. I cannot play at all on my phone and my games are expiring cause I don't always have access to a computer. It is becoming quite frustrating
iOS 9.2.1 on iphone 6 - badly affected too.
iOS 9.2.1 on iPhone 5s. Freezes while loading advertisement.
Same here, the app has become broken. iOS 9.2.1 on iPhone 6.
I have now updated to iOS 9.3 and the app still freezes as soon as I open it.

What? I never saw an ad and I'm using the app, too. I got 5s and it never freezes. But I am slower than my opponents - probably because of my wireless is also connected to iptv.

Hi,
Since yesterday whenever I open the chess.com app on my iPhone it freezes and I cannot play anymore. I need to 'hard close' the app.
I have done the following:
- Updated latest version
- Installed/uninstalled the app
- Closed a couple of times
- Logged in/logged out
What can I do? Suddenly out of the blue it is freezing constantly and I cannot play anymore!
