Few among us are competitive tournament players. Most of us are casual players who nevertheless have achieved a decent level of proficiency. As one grows older Chess becomes one of your best friends. I play all over the city. 1. Whether in the open air riff raff spot in Tompkin's Square Park at 10 the street and Avenue A.  Many strong homeless players there.   2.  The open air gathering of chess hustlers at 14th street & Union Square Park. Many strong players there of all types usually looking for a money game. I enjoy money games. I go in for $3. 00 per game. I like playing 5 minute blitz here for $3.00 game.  3. The Marshall Chess Club is in an elegant brownstone building on 10th street & 6th avenue in the posh West Village.  For a mere $350. 00 per year one can become a member of this renowned & history rich Chess Club as i have done. It's a perfect place to play on a night like tonight when NYC is in sub freezing temperature.  I smoke a blunt in the Bronx & ride the  #5  train into Manhattan to play at the club. The miracle of the subway makes it easy. All the way up in the Bronx to the chess Club's door in 45 minutes, no problemo.        My interest in Chess is a life companion & so  I play enthusiastically , even though i suck,  all over NYC.   Arivaderci amigos!

That sounds great, man! As a hater of big cities, I have to admit all those cool chess opportunities must really make up for living in a toxic metropolis, lol. Would love to visit the Marshall Chess Club someday.
