Chess at work

How many of you play chess at work?      If so for how long?    Do other people know?

I do, I make moves when i first get to work and keep it up most of the day refreshing every 5 or 10 minutes perhaps. I work in I.T. though so am doing other things too :-)  Lots of people at work know I play...even my boss walked in on me once...although it was my "lunch break" haha.....it has even led to myself and a couple of other guys playing on an actual board we found at work. Naturally, I remain unbeaten here so far hehe

Yeah, me too..but sometimes work disturbes my play so takes too much time to make a move..;) my boss is understanding so far..

Since I am the boss and play at work - I am in a better position than most, but work comes first and it does often cause me to not pay close enough attention to my games.

same here ive made many stupid moves because im multitasking and not giving chess my full attention

i used to play at work a lot but was making stupid moves as well, now i keep my play to home and lunch time only!! You make less mistakes just for the sake of making a move.

Wish I could play at work during my lunch break... we have a games blocker on all our computer systems!

To all the bosses out there who do this, I just want to say... "Don't you realise how much more productive at work we would be after a bit of mental stimulation from our chess games lunchtimes!" Tongue out

I used to until the people who manage the firewall checked the logs & saw chess.com was being accessed (though mainly only at lunchtine Smile) - now it's blocked Frown

But I still can't resist calling in at the library in my lunch hour to make a quick move or two ...

I am an overnight auditor so it is just me and the security guard.  I used to play with our old security board until a hater at work heard about it and told on us.  The sec. guard got sent to another property which I felt bad about.  That's when I discovered chess.com.  I used to play on the companies comp but now I bring my laptop in, set it in the other room and wait for the infamous sound of the board refreshing "click".  Then I race in excited to see "My Move".  I only have to work for 2 hours a night realistically so I play for several hours a day at work.

I have 2 boards on my desk and I play with a couple people in the office. They make a move occasionally when they pass by. Sometimes it may take days or weeks to finish a game. Also one year at the Christmas party the company took the time to find out about everyone interests or what sports team they like and they got personalized gifts for everyone. They got me a nice wooden chess set. So naturally when your company gives you a chess set you feel obligated to play at work.

We talked about this in a previous post, "closet chess".

I own a small company and started making online moves during slow times

at the office.  I knew it wouldn't look good so I would close the window

anytime someone wanted to talk to me.  I heard from one of the guys

that works for us that the receptionist thought I was surfing adult sites.

It seems the guilty "been playing chess" look is the same as the "been

surfin' porn" look.

Now I leave the window open and keep a board set up on my desk.

We also set up an adult site lock out on our server.

I also keep a wooden board on my desk, but more to play over master games or analyze interesting positions. My colleagues present no challenge.

Ouch! I'm much happier with my reputation as that guy who takes a walk or plays a few chess moves when he needs a breather. :)

OK, I am stumped.  What does 10_1_3_1_19_19 represent?

I don't even have internet access at work, so it makes it a bit hard! However there's an internet kiosk not far away that I sometimes go down to during my breaks to see whose moved and to maybe make a move or 2 myself.

I sneak a move here and there at work, mainly because I have to wait for the computer that has internet access to become available, then again I've been known to make mistakes when trying to catch up with all the games I have pending.  I do most of my playing at home where I can concentrate better on what I'm doing.

I play at school all the time. I'll always go to my history teacher (the chess club sponsor) during lunch and ask him for a game, but...he's always teaching class so I get kicked out. But they've blocked chess.com on the school computers! We have about 30-minutes free-time every day in my computer class, and I could be on here playing chess, studying openings and puzzles, etc. I'm pretty sure a little chess.com would help our education a lot more than the celebrity gossip sites everyone else checks out when they're done with their work. But I found that wikipedia has chess articles I can read, so I've managed to keep my energy focused on what's important :)

I work in retail and i bring a hand held chess game to work to play sometimes. It is actually probably the worst thing to play chess on as it takes the computer about 10 minutes to think of its next move..
