What sort of places?
Chess banned?

That's cause as soon as someone walks in anywhere with a chess board, everyone thinks they are super-cool, and no one else can get any attention. Especially if they look like a total dork! Then the board gets set up, and everyone wants to play them to get some of that attention back, and prove their superiority. Soon enough, bets are started, and the money begins to fly, and not into the coffers of the venue. Eventually, a brawl breaks out because one of the challengers did not know about en passant, and then the chess player has to bust out some special kung-fu/krav-maga or something...and besides, we all know from some other threads that a lot of U.S. players are packing heat!!! Chess players are known troublemakers, and it seems reasonable that any respectable esablishment would not want them around.

Went into a Starbuckstm recently, they tried to keep me from setting up my board to go thru Master Games in the Sunday Timestm chess section...man, they definitely regretted that decision!!!
I ended up getting my coffee for free.
U.S. Constitution guarantees Freedom of Chess!
P.S. On a more serious note, it is weird that public playing of chess was banned in certain locations in San Francisco.

Are these locations where chess sharking is the norm?

I love kung fu fights with alcohol. The're hilarious.
I tried to kung-fu fight alcohol once. It kicked my ass and knocked me out.

Yes. There used to be chess on Market street near one of the BART stations. You had to pay to play. (secret code for betting)

I think the San Francisco scenario is geared towards the homeless, because chess sharking is the norm in L.A, Boston, N.Y, and elsewhere.

Homeless people should not be allowed to play chess...after all, they have so much else to fulfill thier lives. As long as they don't become squeegee people.
Have you noticed that in more and more places in the United States, chess is not allowed?
Why is this?
