Videos are passive learning. You cannot learn to swim, to drive a car, or to ride a bicycle from a video. Chess is the same. You have to do it.
Depends how serious you are about improvement. There are plenty of good chess books, personally I prefer books that are not only informative but also entertaining...
"The Amateur's mind" is a fun read. Currently, I am reading Judit Polgar's autobiography... Great book.

What are good chess books for a 1400-1600 rapid rated player? I've heard that there are a lot of books that really aren't useful and I'm looking for advice on which ones are good and which ones are bad.
