I enjoy being a member of my chess club. It gets very heated sometimes because everyone is so competitive, but I think it brings out the best in all of us. Besides making new friends, I think you get the benefit of experience, playing not only over the board but playing people who are way above your level, who can teach you.
Chess Club Member?
It is pleasant to play with nice chess sets for a change instead of the 2d graphic boards. My club is pretty laid back, but It's still different playing with a human being across the table from you rather than somewhere in cyberspace. We do have two guys who like to play blitz and talk trash throughout the game but they are good friends.
Yea i play in a club, its good to play against lots of different people going to other clubs and as its at a members club the beer is super cheap
but the negative part is that when i want a break from chess they just wont stop sometimes, but yea its nice to get out and play chess
Yes, and it makes a lot of sense if you have strong players playing it. From a selfish perspective, you want a really strong player you can always get advice from. I pretty much got better on account of a club member who would yell at me regularly so much that I would try to stop making mistakes JUST SO he would stop finding reasons to yell at my games. :)

There is one guy I play with sometimes at a club, where we do that to each other. It is almost like adding another piece to the game ( distraction ). I have a whole lot of fun playing him because of it. It gets pretty funny at times too every-now and again we will get a crowd around us.
lol
Is anyone a member of a chess club? If so, do you enjoy it? What sorts of benefits do you get? Thanks!
