Chess Coach

PLAYtoWINtheGAME

Im interested in being coached by a 2000+ player. I would like to use skype and this site as the tools. Im only interested in volunteers. Im not going to pay someone $20 an hour to play a game with me, not happening. When i have the time, i believe im between a 1700 and 1800 strength player. I want to improve my game as much as possible. Then down the road, become a chess coach/tutor of some sort. Now i would like someone who enjoys to teach and enjoys the game of chess even more.

Remember: Not looking to pay anything. Candidate should be generous, and only motivation should be to see others succeed and flourish in the greatest game ever made. Well i hope someone is interested. Hope to hear from you!! And send a private message if interested!:)

HEY TEAMWILLOW, go play in traffic:)

Not everything in this world is about money. I in fact, offer to analyze my opponents(1300-1600) games, for FREE. I take the time out of my day to do this. In hopes they will learn from a better opponent. And continue improving.

Hey, he's only asking, perhaps someone is bored and doesn't mind. Relax.

You're a clown. Let me point out the difference for you since you're obviously such a genius you might not understand something so obvious:

You're OFFERING analysis for opponents ranked 1300-1600 for free.

This is in contrast to you asking for people to coach you for free.

Let me show you some really fun, real-life examples to paint a vivid picture of how stupid you are:

1. You take your car into the body shop and ask if anyone there will do work on it for free. When they say no, they want to get paid for their work and time, you tell them that, "Not everything in this world is about money." You then go on to explain you fix your neighbor's car for free sometimes.

2. You dine at a fancy restaurant and ask the server afterward if you can have the meal free. When they say no they want to get paid for their chef's time and the food you consumed, you give them the money speech again, and then tell them you cook for others for free sometime.

Do you need me to post more or is your stupid turd of a brain understanding all this now?

Teamwillow is right!!...

C-Saw

And do you mean a 2000 rated player on here? Or USCF or FIDE?

Because a 2000 on here is about a 1500 or 1600 in the real world. A 1700 on here is about a 1100 uscf Ive found. The ratings on here are inflated compared to USCF or FIDE.

C-Saw

Thats generally speaking about the ratings..dont everyone freak out ..

PLAYtoWINtheGAME

Teamwillow is not right!!

Your comparisons are horrible.Im asking for a better player to show me what he knows. you on the other hand, are talking about 1)asking for free goods and 2) asking for a skilled person who has learned a trade, to give me a service for free. Chess IS NOT A TRADE, OR SERVICE. It's a game.

If you dont have anything nice to say, just don't say it. This is not a debate or argument team. This is a chess forum, so if anyone is interested in helping me, i'd appreciate it. Thank you all

Not trying to discourage the OP, but there are  few issues with this approach:

- Coaching a 1300-1600 is not the same as coaching a 1700-1800.  Anyone with a math background can volunteer to teach basic algebra but if I have to work with merit scholars in highschool sitting at a advanced math class, it will be far more tasking and challenging. I'd expect more incentive for this activity compared to the other.

- Nothing good ever comes for free.  You get free trials and samples ... but a sustained relationship is based on incentives for "both" sides.  Kind of how the world works, I'm afraid.

- Your sales pitch offers very little incentive for somebody to get onboard. "to see others succeed and flourish in the greatest game ever made"  is hoping for a little too much.

It may help if you offer to coach a beginner for a fee that you can transfer over to your own coach.

I will coach you for free.

I've found that "free coaching" is for students who don't succeed. They simply walk away, often on a whim, leaving their rather more enthusiastic coach, high and dry.

When the student pays, he has enough invested in the program to see it out and take the interaction seriously.

teampillow, What is your problem? the man came in with a polite request for a coach and made it known that he isnt willing to pay.  What if he is on welfare or foodstamps? has no money? those posibilties didnt enter your head because you are probably a person who asks for free even with the means to pay.  It wasnt as if he tried to trick anyone so why are you so afriad of someone getting something for free? im a very bad chess player by even terms of this site floating around a 1300 rating but in the real world if anyone wants advice on basic things such as openings, how pieces move, general opening theory i am more then willing to provide.  And your analogy on coaching is wrong, i played college football and was drafted into the canadien football league and i volunteer 24 hours per week minimum to help high school players along with putting on free summer camps.  I am also a personal trainer and routinly give people free workout programs because my aim is for other people to get better.  In all honesty you just come across as a bitter person, why not just decline YOUR personal services, why try and discourage others from doing so?

Set a board up in any public place.  Players will come.  Those that beat you will gladly offer advice on request, so will those who lose to you but the former will be more helpful than the latter.

Wow.  I've seen teamwillow in other threads and my guess is that he is filled with a lot of anger in her personal life.  I've been there and ended up lashing out to people on the internet.  Chillax man.  PlaytoWintheGame's question certainly shouldn't have warranted an insult.

PlaytoWinTheGame:  I see you are a premium member.  Sounds like you are better than I am so take this with a grain of salt.  But as a premium member you can have 25 of your games analyzed each week.  If you need more than that and don't want to upgrade, then you can download free chess engines like Winboard.  There are a lot of downloads in the resources link of this site on the menu bar.

I think what other people are saying is true.  If you really want to improve to the level of Class A or Candidate Master, then its worth paying for.  If you want something bad enough you should be willing to pay.  Perhaps you cannot pay for it would be way too difficult for you to afford.  In that case, good luck finding someone.  I think your best shot is to make a really good chess friend in person.  Maybe go to local clubs and if you are lucky and play a lot, then if there is a 2000+ player there, then maybe they will play blitz games with you and help you analyze afterwards.  Or you can upload a lot of the games you have played online on 365chess.com (must pay a little) and email the guy links or take a laptop and he can look at them.

I have a brother that is a Candidate Master.  You'd think that would be the coolest thing for learning.  But its pretty time consuming.  Its hours and hours of work.

curodd, good point. Glad people see eye to eye on this with me. TW is a hater. Can u blame him???

Having your games analyzed doesnt really help me. Sure it tells you the best possible move. And shows you your blunders, mistakes, and inaccuracies. But it doesnt tell you why it was a bad move. And doesn't teach you the theory behind everything. I believe a real person helping another real person, is the most beneficial way of learning. Much more than having games analyzed by a computer, playing the computer, reading books, or memorizing opening lines.
