Chess.com keeping my rating low?

Growing up, for the first 15 years of my life, my best friend was Daniel Rensch. We used to play chess at lunch. He was better than me at chess but a bit more socially awkward. That's probably one day he asked me to tell this girl, Angela, he liked her. When I tried to she said she liked me. Danny didn't talk to me years after that.

We eventually ran into each other in university. We were both drunk and when I brought up Angela I made a joke that his mother was the only woman who loved him. I don't know why I said it and had no idea his mom died the same day and he was drowning in his sorrows.

I tried to apologize the next day. I drove to his house but he didn't answer. When I decided to leave he changed his mind. He opened the door to tell me off but his dog got out and I ran it over accidentally. Killed it apparently.

I don't know if I'm responsible but he was a chess IM when all this happened and he was never the same afterward.

Anyways, I recently got back into chess but every time I try to play on chess.com I always end up in 1700-1800 ELO. I keep getting up to 1900 and falling back down. For comparison, I am 2200 on other sites.

I don't want to accuse my old friend for anything but do you think he's playing my emotions and letting my rating get high only to send it crashing back down? Like maybe as poetic justice for stealing his girl, insulting his dead mom, and running his dog over?

the first two are forgivable, but running over his dog was just too much

Reminds me of Jack Handy.

We all got something in some way. Sin is the only way we can downgrade ourselves and face immediate consequences.

I think your major sin was to include too many unrealistic elements to this story. I liked the first paragraph though...

Seems plausible 😂😂😂

1) Doubtful any of this is true and 2) Why possible effect could he or any admin have on how YOU play your games? You’re just not as good as you think you are.
The reason you higher on other sites is due to the skill of the local players - better players play on better sites and Chess.com is the best site.

You aren’t allowed to compare chess.com to other sites - Im sure the mods will be here in a jiffy to zap that up?!

He is purposely making me playing much stronger players.

It's obviously on purpose.

You left out the part where you told him you’re his father, cut off his hand, and then threw your boss down a laundry chute after said boss tased Danny.

I'm fairly certain killing the dog is a worth a five year ban

Maybe he just doesn't like you calling him Danny. The rest of it sounds very normal in relationships. Missing the occasional manslaughter though.

Just to be clear.  This topic was obviously written in jest. Please do not use it to feed your dark thoughts discussed in your topics like

Hope you are doing well.

Why didn't you buy him a new puppy? It's the best thing you can do. He probably doesn't like her mother much and he just wanted a one night stand with the girl.

I've had a similar experience. I haven't been able to gain a single rating point here for years. I think it all stems from that time when I convinced Natalia Pogonina that Erik was not a good man to marry.
