chess.com not letting me castle

I'm trying to castle on Queen's side in Chess.com but it won't let me. I've followed instructions and tried to move the king over to C1 but it's not automatically sending the Rook over to D1. I've tried on Google Pixel phone, iPad and now iMac.

I'm not in Check and I haven't moved the King or Rooks yet (in case you're wondering).

This is the game I'm in: https://www.chess.com/daily/game/274051792

Is this a bug?

Well, we're not supposed to comment on active games, but it's no bug. Please review the definition of castling.

How does a 736 rated player not know how to castle? How is a 736 rated player who doesn’t know how to castle, beating a 1300 rated player?

All I can say is that Viktor Korchnoi, as a GM playing in a tournament, had to ask an arbiter if it was legal for him to castle in a certain position. :-)

Okay, The king has to move through a square that has check. in this case, d1. This may sound really weird but this rule exists. Even though you may not fall into check when you castle, You cannot move the king through a controlled square. Also notice you cannot castle kingside also.

Trust the arbiter.

I can't see where the OP is trolling at all.

I've not been able to Castle in legit situations in the past day. It's a bug

Per chess.com to castle you have to click the king then click two squaresvaway

I was wondering the same thing. I've been able to castle by clicking on the King and then the rook until yesterday. It looks like it's a recent change where you need to either click on the King and then either click two squares away or drag it as described above. Not sure if this was rolled out to everyone at the same time, but I just noticed it in the past day.

It is indeed the change that they made and everybody should have received the notification about this (I did received it a couple a days ago). In order to castle you move the King two squares towards the rook on the king or queenside (the same applies in chess960).

I think Chess 960 still will castle when clicking the king and then the rook.

There was a change as mentioned above. If you use click-move, you can't click the king and then to the rook to castle in standard chess. You have to click the king and then the destination square instead (which always worked, just the option to click the rook to do it was removed)

It was because you can’t castle thru check , as the knight is preventing the king from castling .

Question: if you move your king to d1, is it check?

If your answer is yes, this is why you can’t castle.

If you move your king to c1, is it check?
If your answer is yes, this is why you can’t castle.
If no to these questions, it’s a bug
