Some are very good. Alas, some are terrible. Sorting the wheat from the chaff can be time consuming.

I almost always play only on chess.com and I think chess.com is better. But there are a few things I like better on liches and chess.com could integrate them:
- Organization of themed tournaments
- Daily regular Swiss tournaments
- Opening explorer of all games played

My pros for Chess.com:

  • Better presentation.
  • More "western" forums.
  • More widely used by titled players.

My pros for Lichess:

  • Free analysis.
  • More "international" userbase.
  • Open Source.

The question is controversial and difficult to answer for good reasons.

By "presentation" you mean UI, I suppose. Many seem to prefer chess.com's, I have no idea why. I really prefer lichess UI.

Another pro of lichess is that it is way less buggy.

I do like the free analysis on Lichess, as opposed to only getting one free game review a day on chess.com (I am considering an upgrade but that is a different issue).

Avatar of Kowarenai

both but sometimes I prefer Lichess it generally depends on my mood

as IM John Bartholomew said there is no point in disputing these topics as they are both equally good in their way and that's how it should be so why not use both? that's the objective way to look at it imo

Monopolies are good in the short term, but not the longterm - though there are certainly circumstances which this doesn't apply. And, if my feel for the pulse on the situation is correct, I believe that keeping two strong entities separate but competing with each other in relative peace, is true, I think we're all good, here.
