Chess.com *did not steal* my money

Hi,

I payed for a platinum membership on my ipad, and never got it.  I seen the charge was on my credit card.  I never got platinum though.

I tried contacting support, and they told me that my credit card didn't work.  It is true that my credit card from last year didn't work for the auto-renew.  But that is not the card that I payed with .  I replied to support with that, but they have not responded.

I just thought I'd mention it incase it happens to anyone else: It is possible for chess.com to take your money without giving you platinum.  It's $107.51 after taxes (probably depends upon state).

Edit: I changed the forum topic, since it would be misleading.  It's been resolved.  I was genuinely concerned about not getting the membership.  The take-home from this is that I like the tactics trainer, and am annoyed when I don't have a membership to use it :-p

I just tried reporting them via the link on my reciept from apple, and it just sends me to the chess.com website.

What a shame, bro!

For better results you should better put this on https://www.reddit.com/r/chess/
I'm sure there you will find better help than here.

Purchasing through the app stores requires manual intervention from chess.com staff, it is not automatic.

So, if you made a separate payment, different from the auto-renew one, you should probably open another ticket, so the issue is clear, and include any payment verification information you have, to make it easier to track down.

Why would they steal your money? Like the mod said maybe it's a manual procedure if you order through playstore.

Chess.com should refund

jdcannon

Hi there!

Chess.com Certainly doesn't want to steal anything from anyone! I have contacted our billing team and asked them to contact you directly.

Once again I am very sorry for the trouble!

Thanks, I opened another ticket.  I've replied several times to a guy named Matt.  He had said my credit card was declined.  I responded saying I had payed via apple pay, and sent him a screenshot of the reciept, but I have not heard back from him.  It's quite irritating since most the time when you subscribe to a given thing, it 'just works'.  It's sort of my fault I guess, since I assumed that paying for a given thing would result in receiving the thing.

The main issue is how the app store payment systems and the site subscriptions interact, and since there isn't an automatic interface (as I understand it) it takes some manual steps. It will get sorted, just may take a little time. @jdcannon posted above as well, so staff is aware.

Call the police.

Drop the drama and work on it until it is resolved.  I have no doubt that if you truly paid, chess.com will treat you fairly and you will get your platinum membership.

@CatPetter

Hello, this is Matt with Chess.com Billing and Membership Support. I have now sent you a personal message by email to work with you on this matter. I look forward to resolving this with you very soon!

Why is it these days that whenever someone has a glitch with payments the first course of action is to write a pathetic post in a forum claiming that they have had money stolen or their dog has been kidnapped by the evil web company.

This is the modern day equivalent to a 5 year old stamping their feet.

Speak to the accounts/payment department. They will sort it out. It is what they do. The clue is in the name.

CatPetter

Ok, what happened makes sense now.  I had an old id which I haven't used in a few years.  Like Martin said, it's a manual process.  So they had attached the membership to that.
