What I do not like with chess.com using my laptop the volume is so soft. Sometimes I cannot hear the move and do not realize the opponent had already moved I lose on bullet time. In lichess, the pieces sound and effects are loud.

Yeah and the clicks and beeps on lichess sound cooler

Lichess for actual CHESS but chess.com is better for casual players. If you just want to chill, chat and make some friends, then chess.com. I personally like Lichess better, because chess.com is just too greedy. Like, not even free game review or explorer?

They both have their good points. Lichess has a classical category and fewer weak players. It has unlimited puzzles which are also harder at a similar rating. Chess.com has cartoon graphics and personality bots. I use both depending upon my mood. Comparing the two sites in the forums seems to be taboo on Lichess for some unknown reason.

Lichess has better analysis, but chess.com has better social things

Lichess is better

I like lichess better as I can always play with players that are equal to me in play style.....in chess.com ( i play rarely) it makes you start at 600 and then if you win almost every game it still has me kept on 900 after a whole year.
Also, lichess gives every chess facility for free, but chess.com does not even let you game review or play more than 8 puzzles......how will it help me grow as a chess player if it does not allow me the right practice to do so??
But there is 1 thing i like about chess.com - It allows you to actually write what you want in the forums. Lichess times you out if you say anything bad about it in the forums
Also, chess.com has a better ui and does not ban you without giving a reason
This is my view

Overall, my point-
Both Chess.com and Lichess.org are excellent online chess platforms, but they cater to slightly different audiences and priorities. Lichess is a completely free, open-source platform that offers a clean, minimalist interface and lightning-fast performance. It provides advanced features such as in-depth analysis with Stockfish, opening explorer, studies for collaborative learning, and an unlimited number of puzzles—all without any cost or advertisements. Its commitment to openness, speed, and functionality makes it particularly appealing to serious players, trainers, and those who value a distraction-free experience. On the other hand, Chess.com offers a more polished, feature-rich environment with a wide range of resources including interactive lessons, articles, video content, themed bots, and an active social community. It has a massive user base, which results in very quick matchmaking and an active tournament scene, including participation from grandmasters and well-known streamers. However, many of its most valuable features, such as full game analysis, puzzle rush, and guided lessons, are locked behind a paywall, and the free version includes ads. Its mobile app is also more refined and user-friendly than Lichess’s, which can be a deciding factor for some. Ultimately, if you prioritize open access, speed, and serious study tools without any cost, Lichess is the better choice. If you’re looking for a broader, more social chess experience with gamified learning and don’t mind paying for extra features, Chess.com might be the better fit. Many players choose to use both platforms: Lichess for analysis and study, and Chess.com for casual play and community engagement.

Most lichess sided players would say this-
Lichess.org stands out as the superior platform for players who value freedom, functionality, and focus over flash. It is entirely free and open-source, meaning every feature—from powerful engine analysis and cloud-saved studies to unlimited puzzles and an advanced opening explorer—is accessible without subscriptions or ads. This makes Lichess incredibly welcoming to serious players, students, and coaches who want robust tools without financial barriers. Its interface is fast, clean, and distraction-free, allowing users to focus purely on their game without being bombarded by pop-ups, upsells, or cosmetic distractions. The platform also supports a wide range of chess variants, conducts regular titled arenas, and fosters a strong, globally engaged community grounded in transparency and respect for user privacy. Unlike Chess.com, which locks many of its best features behind a paywall, Lichess is built on the belief that high-quality chess tools should be available to everyone, not just paying subscribers. For those who want a reliable, ad-free, and ethically grounded environment to learn, compete, and grow, Lichess is unmatched.

Most chess.com sided players would say this-
Chess.com offers a highly polished and feature-rich experience that makes it the platform of choice for millions of players around the world, especially those who enjoy a dynamic, interactive, and social approach to chess. Its vast user base ensures instant matchmaking at any time of day, creating a lively and competitive environment across all skill levels. The platform excels in guided learning, offering structured lessons, puzzle rush modes, adaptive training plans, and engaging video content tailored to beginners and intermediates who want to improve with direction and feedback. Its clean and user-friendly mobile app makes it easy to play, study, or spectate on the go, while gamified features like daily quests, achievements, and themed bots add a layer of fun and motivation. Chess.com also hosts high-profile online tournaments and events featuring elite grandmasters and streamers, making it a central hub for the online chess community. While some of its more advanced features are behind a paywall, the overall design, community integration, and content variety make it a compelling platform for anyone who values not just playing chess, but experiencing it as part of a broader, engaging ecosystem.

Boris has LiChess and Chess.com. LiChess is better. LiChess have fewer rude cheaters and hate filled nobodies who want to pretend they are important.

The idea that any software ever provides a full and useful analysis of your game holds back most players.

.
Both sites use the same engine, but not always the same version. Lichess does more to update to the latest version. Neither site offers clear focus on the critical moments, but both offer resources for finding these if you do some of your own analysis.

.
The chessdotcom game analysis graph is easier to read than lichess, but I like the easy access to move times on lichess (something that was better on chessdotcom until they eliminated the summaries that contained useful data, including average move time relative to degree of error).
