Sometimes on chess.com if I am reading an old article, and there is a link, I click on it. But guess what happens. It says 404 error. I don't know why they still have links to pages that are not available anymore. I really ish the chess.com team does go through and either redo the page or just remove the link because at times it can get very annoying when you want information and all of the links don't work. Another thing I have noticed is that when chess.com is working on the site, then every single page stops working. My account was showing everything fine, but my friend's account was messed up. Everywhere he went it said 44 error.
There are tens of thousands of links. Fixing the broken ones would be a full time job.
I agree that it can get annoying. But if you manually edit the link, you can usually find what you were looking for. Many links going to other places on this site were broken when the V3 site redesign occurred. Often, the redesign simply moved items from one directory to another. If you take a few minutes, you can find most things. (Deleting things takes work too.) Google search is your friend.
However, some things are just broken. Links going to other sites are obviously beyond their control. Other things are broken because of technology changes.
Site-wide outages are rare.
