Yeah I always thought it seemed cool when players announce mate in movies/TV, but I figured it was probably rude to do it in real life.

Actually, it could go two ways...whether morals mean anything, that is...but creator-allowed or random bag of bones, people that are malicious and bitter are a waste of cells either way ;). Go do something worthwhile.

It depends on who you're playing and what kind of game it is. Is it a friendly pick up match or are you playing a rated game? Are you playing a friend, acquaintance, family, or a stranger?

Yes, I think it's rude to announce a forced mate unless you're a chess teacher or it's an open analysis game.
