Quite difficult to post a link to an OTB game.

On Saturday I had been out drinking most of the day and probably had 9-10 pints. In the evening we went to play blitz chess and I whooped everyone else's backside, I scored 14/17, despite struggling to stand up

9-10 pints?!  The only thing I've drunk 10 pints of is water and it took me half the day.

Haha.  Well in my case at least that's true.

Come on, you remember a game just after having played it. You just have to enter it right after so you don't forget.

Of course, in our case, there is the slight issue of not being able to walk a straight line after the game, but I do not see how this can have an effect.

Somebody should do a driving experiment: How much does three pints of beer (or rather, vodka perhaps) impact your driving ability?

People have been doing that ever since cars were invented, and it rarely ends well.

I had more than 4 pints of beer inside of me. :) Time control - 90+30.

The conclusion is clear : 4 pints of beer make you play like a NM.

I must get my norms fast, before other people discover the trick !

Wrong conclusion - 4 pints make you play stronger than NM. :)

Since chess initially is a drawn game and isn't won by brilliancy but by the opponents faults, I have this sordid idea that it's not half as important what you have been drinking, as what your opponent may have.

(It seems like he/she might escalated the intake sometime before more 30 or something)

Wrong. That guy does not drink. At least not during the tournaments.

Fascinating game, you highlight beautifully, like Alekhine before you, that consumption of alcohol does not neccessarily prevent amazing chess from being played. Thank you for sharing NM Pacifique.

While this of course does not apply to you, perhaps now would be as good a time as any to warn fellow beer chess advocates to tread carefully as they assist us in our research endeavors.  The consumption of alcoholic beverages is not permitted in USCF-sanctioned tournaments.  Consumption of alcohol prior to and/or outside of the tournament room is, to my knowledge, not specifically restricted by the USCF; although it would not surprise me if it was frowned upon, especially consumption to excess. For any of you viewing this thread that did somehow manage to consume alcohol within the actual tournament room while participating in an ongoing tournament, I would suggest that you please do not incriminate yourself by admitting such an action on this thread.  I hope our forum moderation colleagues are enjoying this important research endeavor as much as us, so let's do everything in our power in order to stay on their good sides and keep this thread, and by extension this research project ongoing.  I profoundly fear that our civilization may slip back into the intellectual fog of the dark ages if we do not continue searching for this most fundamental of scientific truths.

Heh.  And the Welsh, in contrast, handle their drink so well that their "Prince" is an ugly Englishman who is the product of two centuries of marrying cousins.

Well, that escalated quickly.

Actually, it made me lol

Dear colleagues, I will hopefully have Game 3 of this great beer/chess experiment performed this Saturday.  I will try to keep as many variables as possible similar to Game 2. I appreciate your patience and apologize for the delay in providing you with aforementioned data.

Lmao does that go for Aussies too then, as we got the same inbred prince?

A tip for wine drinking chess players:-

If you ever lose the cork from your bottle of wine you can always wedge your bishop in it.  Surprised
