LOL.

Where did you get the idea that people equate chess to a "frail weak guy." Nerdish perhaps, but being a nerd doesn't equate to being "frail and weak." Hasn't for a long time; if anything nerdish behavior has evolved into a unique kind of coolness.

And nobody has the power to put another on the "bottom of the social list", that's something one does to themself, usually through their own attitude or behaviors.

No, it's just that that's what some people think what a chess players qualities are from what I seen with others. Obviously they are wrong though

1) That stereotype presented by the OP is a common opinion of non-chess players, contrary to the hopes and dreams of posters here.

2) It largely happens to be true.  Just look at the people at tournaments, smell those delicious smells of B.O. and social ineptitude.

Chessplayers split hairs over nerd and geek characterizations.  Everyone else just lives out those roles, with aplomb.  Big difference.

Then again, pet owners (as per above) are equally eccentric.

That cat is cute, his owner isn't.

If you want to improve your taste in fashion, visit a chess tourney for a bit of a shock.

Cats do look even better with a nerd mugshot for contrast. I likes it!

So The Big Bang Theory didn't help?

I don't think it would do you any favours dating wise, when it comes to discussing interests I'll normally omit chess. Presumably you automatically come across as "boring".

Iluvsmetuna

It never looks good if you say you're interested in bits of wood moving around on a small chequered board, as opposed to people moving around on a planet.

amilton542

Then I rest my case, that's why it's best to keep your chess interest hush.

You humans are so slow and dim witted.

I find a 'thinking' man very attractive...hence why i'm single Laughing

amilton542

Let's be honest, the 'thinking man' has made the world what it is today. Only if they knew.

Every person in the world thinks. You have to think to do anything... Like sitting down or taking a poop both require thinking...

That is deep...Mr Cat! Wink

I once thought of taking up bridge as a game that required skill and was social enough to involve women. But that tradition seems to have died out with my grandparents' generation.

SharonCarter

Funny ipcress12 i think you've stumbled onto the wrong forum, you want 'sexism in chess', no thank you required Laughing

amilton542

I think you would much prefer a game of twister ;)

It's deep if its not a floater.

Cath724: How tiresome.

My impression, shoot me if you must, is that women are drawn more to social activities than men, not that they are deficient in abilities to play games like chess -- bridge being a prime example.
