2 thoughts:
1) That stereotype presented by the OP is a common opinion of non-chess players, contrary to the hopes and dreams of posters here.
2) It largely happens to be true. Just look at the people at tournaments, smell those delicious smells of B.O. and social ineptitude.

Where did you get the idea that people equate chess to a "frail weak guy." Nerdish perhaps, but being a nerd doesn't equate to being "frail and weak." Hasn't for a long time; if anything nerdish behavior has evolved into a unique kind of coolness.
And nobody has the power to put another on the "bottom of the social list", that's something one does to themself, usually through their own attitude or behaviors.
No, it's just that that's what some people think what a chess players qualities are from what I seen with others. Obviously they are wrong though
