Well perhaps my title for this thread has scared people off ?  lol, I should perhaps have called it Chess for people who have been around the block a couple of times. However I do love to play the game even tho I'm at a very average level allways keeping in mind that I'm also getting lots of mental exercise while involved in a fun activity that I enjoy. There is one minor ( but quite aggravating ) problem tho that I've been noticing. I will be in the middle of a game and suddenly my mind wanders off and next thing I know I've made a boneheaded move and messed up the game. I mainly play Live Chess try to keep the game moving ( set at 15 and 10 ). I had a nice litte game going earlier today and for no logical reason gave away a rook, with no return of material, maddening. Perhaps this type of problem is one reason that we see very few older players able to keep up in high level tournament play ? Well I'm off to get another game, maybe this time I can get my mind to concentrate all the way to the end of the game  lol.

@ cabadenwurt I have the same problem. Too many squirrel moments and loss of concentration. Too many blunders. But to give my brain cells a daily workout I continue to play this wonderful game and always will.

Thanks for an interesting post. I'm finding it harder and harder to concentrate for long periods of time and my short term memory is definitely going. I got on the site to get an idea of what my rating might be, something I've never had a chance to do. I realize, no matter how much I study, I probably won't gain any more than a couple hundred points, which would be nice. I'd like to at least get an understanding of Tactics before my brain turns to jelly completely. Then again, I had fun flopping around in the 800s and not worrying too much about my rating.

The one good thing about getting old is finding all the new things you didn't know about from your childhood. CRS can be a wonderful thing. Heard this great band the other day. The Beagles, I think.

You know you're old if you wore Bellbottoms, or Hiphuggers, or Stove Pipes, or Mini Skirts, or Hot Pants. Remember those? Now called Daisy Doos. Probably pointed out, couldn't read it all. A women who worked with my Mom always wore Hot Pants. She was a lot of fun for a little kid like me.

"September Song for the Truly Elderly"

Oh, it's a long, long time ...... From toothy to toothless

In the days before fluoride ..... Tooth decay was ruthless

First amalgam fillings ....... Then inlays of gold

Root canals and extractions ...... Let you know you're "old"

And the teeth dwindle down .....To a precious few

That last one's finally crowned! .... (It's number 22!)

"Are those teeth Really yours?!" you ask ..... "They look so Fine!"

"Well, I bought them all ......... so ....... Yes! These Teeth are Mine!"

Having a lot of problems with my teeth. Considering dentures, the alternatives are far too expensive for this pensioner. A lot of Brits because of the pandemic and cost of living crisis are pulling their own teeth!!
