I don't believe girls can differentiate between that many colours.

Men can too, what the graph alluded to was likely due to women having better vocabulary regarding colors, not better color discrimination.

It's like blindfold lite

We should all forget the physics explanation about black and white.

You can buy a tube of black color pigments, right. Then black is a color.

We see the color of an object because that object reflects “a color” to the eye. Every color is the effect of a specific wavelength.

Black reflects no color in the wavelength nanometer scale and yet is is visible to the human eye.

White is said to be the reflection of all the colors of the visible light spectrum to the eyes.

In my non scientific opinion, both black and white are colors as otherwise we would not see them with the human eye. However small or large the light hitting the objects are reflected, we can perceive them.

Rhetorics is one thing, reality of our perception is what we see.

as we refer to colour blindness, black and white is no problem as they not really are colours

while in your point, black absorbs all colours and white reflects them, however this does not matter in this case

I always prefer 50 shades of grey, mixing both white and black as nothing in life is ever clear cut and with 50 choices I have more options.

Pigments and light are two different things when it comes to colour......

Ask an artist and he will tell that white is not a colour.......

Ask a scientist and he will tell you that black is not a colour.....

I don't know - with some of the cr*p they sell these days that kids tend to buy, you could have a colorblind issue.

The cheaper plastic pieces now come in Blue, Yellow, Green, Hot Pink, Orange, Red, etc.

That said, you ain't getting me to play in a tournament game with those pieces, even if you have "Black" (the player that normally has choice of set) as these color don't meet tournament standards.  The White pieces must be White, some form of off white, a color called "Natural" (which is almost like a boxwood color but without the wood), or in the case of wood pieces, Boxwood.  The Black pieces must be Black, or in the case of wood pieces, a very dark brown that clearly differentiates from the Boxwood White pieces or some kind of Ebony.

I know this because a friend of mine had White at the Chicago Open back in the 2000s, and his opponent tried to play with these extremely glossy Red and Black pieces, which were overruled and my friend played with his Black and White pieces.

So in tournaments, colorblindness is not an issue, but in some skittles games between kids, it could be an issue with the garbage that's out there.  "Hey, let's play a game on my Pink and White board with Red and Green pieces!"

Do any of you own polarized sunglasses? Have you put them on and tried to look at a GPS screen or something like it? The screen is very faint or blank but remove them and you see the screen. A bit like red/green colorblind if that helps.

BryPin

FOR those of you that are red/green color blind. please watch this video. Help if real.

Colorblind people can distinguish shades (light/dark). Since there are only two "shades" in chess, black and white, then they can still play. Also there's a common misunderstanding that colorblind people see in black and white, like a black and white TV. They can see colors but not in the same way that normal eyes do. The colors will be off.

SilentKnighte5

I will throat punch anyone who tries to make me play with some goofy colored chess set.

BryPin

@SilentKnighte5 agreed.

If only we were all colour blind.........:  :..They would still be racism...

BryPin

I was trying to make a larger point, but I guess you are correct; sad to say.

..... So an artist will refer to a white guy as colourless and a scientist will refer to a black guy as colourless.

.... So i guess we are all colourless at the end of day → one in a thousand reasons to stop racism.

Not trying to be that guy, but since you can easily call different ethnicities, races, however you want to call them, not only by skin color, but facial structure and other physical features, being colorblind would have no effect at all on racism.
