How to stay concentrated on a game for longer peiods of time? (OTB classical chess)

Avatar of bsan26

Is it good to walk around the hall? Or does that make you lose focus?

Avatar of kindaspongey

I don't walk around, but many players do.

I sometimes walk around to give my mind a break. I ussually do it to think about the position and create some plans

How do you concentrate then?

I mean you should have a mid full stomach and not have too much sugar before playing. And walking is what I do. Helps me get a break and refocus.

Why can you premove on computers more than once, but not on a phone/IoS?

Avatar of superchessmachine

Yeah I have been wondering. Hopefully a staff member replies.

I see what you mean with the Knight but then doesn't that lose some tempo? Well I suppose the world top do play it.

I get it thanks. Yes it does seem to avoid theory and also getting a sound position. Thank you ShockingReport!

How to stop the Queenside push that black usually goes for in the Sicilian?

Attempts to stop Black's Q-side push in the Sicilian will usually take so much of White's time and effort that he fails to carry out his own push on the K-side. Rather than trying to stop Black's Q-side push, Instead, White should try and win the game on the other flank while Black is occupied on the Q-side.

I've got dozens of games won by either White or Black in the Sicilian... some of them my own games, others played by Masters or GMs.

Here's a Sicilian where White just ignores Black's Q-side play and presses forward relentlessly on the opposite flank. The game was played back in the 1960s between two virtually unknown Communist-bloc players, a Bulgarian and a Russian.

So basically both sides are trying to attack each others and who ever reaches/attacks the other side first wins?

In many lines, yes. There are quieter lines as well, but they don't tend to promise any more than the crazy lines do.

Avatar of superchessmachine

ok. I kind of prefer the quiet lines anyway.
