But Deep Blue or whatever you call  that machine, did not ''play '' Chess! Simply did some calculations as it is programmed to do! But Kasparov played Chess and felt the joy , agony , frustration, tension of any sport. A machine never could or will.

Lies. Once AnthroPC's hit the market, human chess playing will be doomed.

Sorry Guolin, I cannot accept what you say,the human element will ALWAYS be a part of playing chess since not everyone likes the thought of playing against a machine. There is no social atmosphere with PCs as there is with a person 2 person game across a physical chess board, also some players enjoy visiting and playing at a organised tournament.

Well done fellow players for backing me on this one. Now all that is to be done is to click onto the link to learn about this "GREAT WONDER".

I'm afraid I don't understand what emotions have do with playing chess. I've met many people who seem to put their emotions on hold while they play the game so as not to have their emotions get involved with their game.

But even if I accept the notion that people cannot part with their emotions, I still have problem with your narrow definition of the word "play". Surely we can "play the system", "play the odds", and many other ways to use the word "play".
