Chess in prison

If this is prying, then don’t answer it. I went to prison for armed robbery in 2017 and sat 3 years before I was paroled due to good behavior. I learned to play chess from books while in jail awaiting sentencing, and played daily throughout my stay in prison as well. Has anyone here played while incarcerated or in any institutions? What are your general thoughts on the matter? I feel like chess in prison is different than playing competitively while out. People tend to blitz out their moves and the atmosphere can be pretty intense. There’s actually a lot of good players who are just locked away. there is a certain level of respect when it comes to time, seeing as there is generally no time control.
