Whenever I travel on the continent, I spend some time playing old men in public spaces. We don't seem to have a culture of that in Britain, possibly because of the weather. Well, anyway, I would like to take some initiative in creating an outdoor space in London( or perhaps in indoor one which is easily accessible. I'm thinking about Stockholm, where I played a few games in the 'Kulturehousen'.) and would like some general advice on the following: Firstly, I need to get a government grant. I need to think of the way we are to do it- for example, many tables with boards painted on them like Washington Square, or a big, semi permanent garden chess set like the Max Euweplein in Amsterdam. I need to promote it(other than flyers, internet diffusion etc, one idea, inspired by Bronx Knights, is to persuade a GM to hold a simul). Then, finally, Location( I was thinking Covent Garden Market, which may be too ambitious, or maybe Hyde Park). Most of all, I want support and help.
I will be doing my own research, but if anyone can give me any information or suggestions, however little, on any of the above it will be greatly appreciated.
are you game?
